Our pastor couldn’t have started the year any better! The Lord let him to start off the year with this simple yet powerful message about building a relationship with God. Honestly, it is a message that I don’t mind hearing again and again and again! We must be continuously reminded that we need to be getting closer to God every day. As I took notes, I marked down some important highlights that I wanted to share with you all!
Christianity isn’t about rules or doctrines, but it is about having a relationship with Christ!
It doesn’t matter how many rules or doctrines we place ourselves in. If we place rules and don’t have a relationship with Jesus, we have a religion. As a matter of fact, when we put God first, he puts us next. If we only approach God because of a certain need, we become like a prostitute.
The devil has tried destroying kingdom and divine relationships.
The devil has seen the power of relationships and what it has done to eradicate his kingdom. The more relationships we have surrounding us, the more powerful we become in prayer. People can impart their gifts, blessings, and anointing over us. In the same manner, a person that isn’t seeking relationships has nothing to offer. If we’re not relational, then we’re in trouble.
If we are not relational, it is because pride has entered us.
The devil tries to steal relationships like this. A prideful person thinks that they are better than everyone. This prevents him from communicating with everyone else because he can’t see themselves equal to those people. Nonetheless, being relational has to do with having a relationship with God. Our relationship with Jesus will affect our other relationships.
Having broken relationships is the same as walking in darkness.
The way that we treat people will be the way that we treat God. If we have not mended or restored our broken relationships, it is because Jesus isn’t dwelling inside our hearts. When we heal those wounds, it is a sign that Jesus is operating and shining in our hearts.
How to develop a strong relationship with God:
- Covenant of Commitment.
We must commit to having a closer relationship with him. Every relationship requires a sacrifice of time, effort, and money to be able to interact. This is the same with God.
- Love of God.
The love of God must be wrapped and engulfed inside of us. Love is a choice, and it is what compels us to spend time with him. When we’re lazy and we don’t want to pray, love is what picks us up from our bed.
- Fear of God.
We must have the respect and reverence to God’s presence. If we don’t pray, we are in trouble and something bad can happen to us throughout the day.
- Obedience to God.
We must hear his voice and obey him when he is talking to us.
We must keep a close communication with him throughout the day. This involves sharing ideas, dreams, visions, goals, and purpose in life. This step involves not just a monologue but hearing his voice and exchanging conversations, the same as with a friend that talks to us.
2016 will be a year of prophecies, the supernatural, and the power and presence of God! How will we receive all of these promises from God? The answer is prayer! We must develop a continuous relationship with Jesus. Only through that relationship, will power come forth in every other area.
