“Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew 6:20
Yesterday, a pastor came to our church and gave a very powerful message. The preaching was in Pakistanian language and the message was being translated because the majority of the church doesn’t understand that language. Although it was very difficult to interpret and understand at times, what stood out to me was when he spoke and said that we cannot take our money to heaven. This opened my mind to a lot more other things. For instance, we cannot take our degree to heaven, as well. We cannot take our talents to heaven. Every gift given to us by God was so that we can carry out the purpose that he gave us on Earth. But the problem lies when we focus on the gifts and we forget about the one that gave them to us in the first place! The problem also lies when we are after earthly treasures and we forget that there is a spiritual realm that is realer, with its own treasures.
In other words, where does our heart lie? Are we working hard to earn more money? Are we trying to so hard to purchase a home, or to buy a car, or to be blessed with riches? I’m not against that. What I am against is when we prioritize ourselves with making wealth, and we forget that the most precious thing to God are people. People are the only thing that we can take to heaven with us! That is what his heart beats and longs for on a daily basis!
“However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us.” Matthew 17:2
The provision that Jesus found was in the fish, which is symbolic and represents souls. When we take care of God’s kingdom, he takes care of us! Amen?
